turnover (syn. overturn, syn. fall overturn)The cycling of upper and lower strata of water in bodies of fresh water in autumn, and vice versa in spring, caused by the heating or cooling of upper surfaces. When the upper surface is cooler than the lower water, the cool water sinks.
