understock (syn. rhizome, syn. rootstock) The stock or root plant onto which a shoot has been grafted to produce a new plant in bud-grafting, especially in cases of double-worked trees.

understocked Refers to a range that could carry more livestock, or a stand that could support more trees or other materials. See also: fully stocked, overstocked, carrying capacity.
